Namiki
The history of the brand begins in 1909 when Ryosuke Namiki patents the first fountain pen designed to keep the ink in its own body. The work with gold nibs allowed, due to its flexibility, fountain pens to Namiki revolutionize Japanese calligraphy, since they could be used instead of traditional brushes. Gonroku Matsuda was the first master in the art of translating MAKI-E into fountain pens, a decoration technique in which images, patterns and letters are drawn with lacquer on the surface of an object, and then metallic powder such as gold or silver is sprayed, which is fixed to the bodies of the fountain pens. Since then, this valuable and artisanal technique has been a recognizable symbol of the Japanese brand's items.
